A Brief History of 307

307 Liberty Street was built in 1867, and originally named the Carson Building.
From 1867-1885 it was the A.F. Mallory Grocery. A 30′ addition was added in 1877.
In 1888 a fire burnt the brick and destroyed the 4 story wooden Hopkins Hotel and
Store which is where the Fabric Center now sits next door.
U.C. Davis had his furniture and funeral home here from 1881-1896, and T.H. Hall
used the location briefly in 1901 while remodeling his 224 Liberty Street Building. At
one point it was a cigar rolling factory upstairs, and Abe Sklut purchased the
building in 1932 and moved his shop, Sklut’s Men Wear, into the location until they
closed in 2017.
Montage Wine Bar & Spirits originally was located across the street at 304 Liberty.
Opened in 2006, we moved to our current location in 2017. While an extensive
remodel took place, we tried our best to keep many of the original features of the
building, such as the hardwood flooring in the main bar and loft, the tin cealings,
and the clothing cabinets located throughout that now serve as the back bar display
and seating
